watchmen portraits

Photographer Clay Enos, perhaps best known for capturing music stars and everyday New Yorkers, has recently been focusing his lens on a project outside of his normal comfort zone. Having been invited to be the official set photographer on the upcoming Watchmen film, Enos not only assumed such a role for the first time, but also took it a step further by also producing the prop photography that would be used to help bring to life Alan Moore’s gritty alternative world.
Now, in the run up to the release of the long anticipated comic book adaptation, over 200 of Enos’ photographs have been collected into a hardback book documenting the absurd amount of detail put into the film’s set design and costuming.
As one of the first comic books to finally propel the medium into a mature art form (in the eyes of the critical world), Watchmen has long been praised as one of the greatest graphic novels of all time – creating a cult following and over 2 decades of waiting for a true adaptation. Director Zack Snyder has been assuring fans of this for a long time; now finally with this behind the scenes look we can see just how true to the source material the film will be.
With stark, black and white photos capturing every level of detail – from the main characters, down to bit players, extras, and even weaponry – Watchmen Portraits adds another level of dimension to Snyder’s meticulous recreation of the Moore’s classic.
