keep footwear
Environmentally friendly footwear probably isn’t high on most people’s list of priorities. Conjuring thoughts of either barefoot living or donning monstrosities such as these, the two extremes would leave most people happy in their existing comfort zone. But in these oft socially irresponsible, environmentally unaware times it’s good to see a brand focus not only on ‘green’ production practices but also embrace ethical concerns aswell. Which is why we noticed Keep – footwear produced ethically in Brazil with 100% cotton canvas uppers and natural gum rubber soles. On these credentials Keep have also managed to build a solid spring/summer collection…
With a running theme of microstriped canvas and the gingham check (the summer 09 trend it seems), the Keep range extends through a variety of low/mid/hi tops. Of note are the Homer Plimsoll, appropriating the classic shape with a blue gingham check top panel, and the Shaheen Chukka, which takes the Vans -like silhouette and gives it an air of understated class.
The hi-tops in the mix can come with an awkward looking strap but are not a ruinous feature, and we particularly like the intricate sole detailing available on some of the models. Though keep footwear is produced primarily for women, they do produce larger sizes for men who would like to rock them with a ‘unisex’ claim. Perfect for summer, regardless of gender, Keep footwear is now available at Oki-Ni.
