light art performance photography
The use of long exposure times to drastically alter the look of what would be ordinary photographs is nothing new; the technique is used prevalently in night photography to pick out details that would otherwise be lost in the dark. Motion blurs can often be an undesireable byproduct, but in certain cases are intentional and can even be the most striking aspect of the image.
Which is where striking may be even be an understatement in the case of the Light Art Performance Project, which combines coloured lights and carefully choreographed movement alongside long exposure times to produce stunningly unreal, yet completely real scenes.
Coolography is particularly amazed by the human element in these wondrous, one shot photos – creating fascinating and awe-inspiring simulations of metahuman abilities. Energy beams, speed trails, force fields; the photos bring to life fantasy and science fiction in a dazzling number of ways.
