baptiste debombourg – aggravure

Posted on: 22 February 2010

We recently stumbled across the work of artist Baptiste Debombourg – and found this aggravure artwork pretty cool. Comprised of 35,000 staples, 75 man hours, and a blank section of 2.5m by 2.7m wall, the artwork represents the renaissance grace of a falling Icarus in the medium of ordinary and everyday office stationary. Whether the work represents “the tacker as a material and media, which plays with the contemporary agression and the profanized utility of the everyday life” or just simply a cool and creative way to kill some hours with a staple gun, is for you to decide… continue reading »

Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade

Posted on: 19 February 2010

Lazarides’ 2010 programme kicked off last week with a uniquely immersive installation in its Soho gallery. Brooklyn based street art pioneers Faile have teamed up with long-time collaborater Bast to create the Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade. On London’s Greek Street, one can find haven from the dull city winter in a dazzlingly bright and intricately detailed exhibition space. Over 2 floors the stylised ‘arcade’ has been worked over with their signature style of brash, flypostered pop culture, with literally every corner and surface given the Faile treatment. The ground floor plays host to an assortment of reappropriated old school arcade cabinets, rejigged with simple, yet bizarre interactive artworks. The basement floor is a more spacious affair, though still lined with an overwhelming abundance of dayglo colours, UV, and continuing the arcade theme are a duo of customised table football rigs. Though playable, the tables are still a few steps below the Bonzini tables coolography is used to, but we’d be hard pressed to find a more unique environment to play in. continue reading »

We love London, and we love photography. Similar sentiments are shared by many, and often the love for both can be brought beautifully together – in particular, by friend of coolography, Stuart Gleave. Playful, colourful, imaginative – compositions that make us sit back and fall deeper in love with this city of ours. Having followed his work for some time, we felt a coolography feature was long overdue. Continue reading for a compilation of his favourite London shots as well as a short Q&A…

Now some things are just silly, and some things are just cool. These strike us as a whimsical combination of the two. German based designers Chris&Ruby sought to attach some personality to the humble chair via means of specially knitted socks. Always felt that your desk chair was a bit masculine? Attach some cool grey argyle knits to complete the look. Corner chair not girly enough? Slip on some sporty pink stripes… continue reading »

Masamichi Katayama’s legendary interior design firm Wonderwall has recently updated their website. Working with flash interaction master Yugo Nakamura, and his company Tha Ltd, the result is an aptly literal, wall of wonder. Moving through the site the Wonderwall portfolio pieces jump out in geometrically resizing bubbles, in a uniquely mesmerising way. Drilling down further into the site you can also find an equally cool slideshow mechanic, which, along with the top level navigation, still play second fiddle to Wonderwall’s amazing interior design work. Though mostly Japan based – you may see some familiar work for stores in cities such as New York, London, and Paris continue reading »
