nyle – let the beat build

Posted on: 29 December 2009

Flicking through Vimeo’s Top 25 videos of 2009 – we can’t believe we slept on this. Flipping Lil Wayne’s ‘Let the beat build‘ – Philadelpha born rapper Nyle and a talented musical cast create one of the most visually and acoustically impressive things we’ve seen in a while. Add to this the fact that both audio and video were shot simultaneously in one take with the formidable Red One camera, and you have further reason for coolography approval.

let yourself feel by esteban diácono

Most visualisation tools for music players are at best a momentary distraction and at worst a complete waste of time. When Esteban Diácono is involved, however, the visualisations can be more interesting than the music itself. Using a combination of “Adobe After Effects, Particular v2, soundkeys and a little starglow,” Esteban has brought to life the music of Olafur Arnalds’ ‘Ljósið’ – the enthralling multicoloured swoops and swirls impressed enough to become the official music video.

hubble ultra deep field in 3d

Posted on: 13 August 2009

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field is an image resulted from pointing the Hubble space telescope at a previously assumed empty region of space. Composited from data accumulated over a period of 6 months, the picture forms the deepest image of the universe ever to have been taken. Looking back over 13 billion years, and containing an estimated 10,000 galaxies, the image is widely purported to be one of the most important to ever be produced by humankind. Consider that the relative size of the image is equivalent to one thirteen-millionth of the total area of the sky, and that alone contains over 10,000 galaxies, each of which contains hundreds of millions of stars much like our sun.

The above video uses red shift data to calculate relative distances between each of those galaxies, and uses this to animate a spectacular 3d flythrough. An unfathomably humbling experience.
