Les Queues de Sardines, the rather abstractly named offshoot of m + o studio, has been on our radar for a while; their funky and original styles are a perfect complement to any (admittedly outgoing) personality. Where normal patterned tights offer some degree of expression – these screen printed designs take tights and stockings to another level. With styles running the gamut from elegant to humourous to straight shocking – its guaranteed you’ll be noticed in any one of the designs, which are, of course, produced strictly in limited quantities. claefall09_1There was a point where coolography, in the folly of their youth, vowed to always rock their footwear hard, no matter the style, colour, fit – we were gonna represent with crazy colourways, mad materials, and of course, pairs obtained through limited lines. Fast forward a few years, and, well, coolography’s getting old. Neon nylon hi-tops, patent watermelon, shy pink ostrich skin… all have slowly dropped out of the regular rotation, in favour of more subtle, classic styles. Although not quite shedding the swoosh for the wingtips just yet, coolography is finding a compromise in a multitude of footwear bridging the gap between trainers and shoes. Continuing the trend of high end designers collaborating with high street fashion, and following on from their own Designer’s Invitation projects, Uniqlo have released the first few teaser images of their new autumn collection with famed German minimalist designer Jil Sander. Though founder of the eponymous fashion house, Jil Sander has been completely uninvolved in its operations since 2004, instead withdrawing from the fashion world until earlier this year where she announced the formation of her own fashion consultancy. With Uniqlo being the first client, the fruit of this relationship is the Uniqlo sub brand +J, which takes the Jil Sander design influence to both menswear and womenswear, with most items sitting comfortably in the sub £100 range. continue reading »
