Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade

Posted on: 19 February 2010

Lazarides’ 2010 programme kicked off last week with a uniquely immersive installation in its Soho gallery. Brooklyn based street art pioneers Faile have teamed up with long-time collaborater Bast to create the Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade. On London’s Greek Street, one can find haven from the dull city winter in a dazzlingly bright and intricately detailed exhibition space. Over 2 floors the stylised ‘arcade’ has been worked over with their signature style of brash, flypostered pop culture, with literally every corner and surface given the Faile treatment. The ground floor plays host to an assortment of reappropriated old school arcade cabinets, rejigged with simple, yet bizarre interactive artworks. The basement floor is a more spacious affair, though still lined with an overwhelming abundance of dayglo colours, UV, and continuing the arcade theme are a duo of customised table football rigs. Though playable, the tables are still a few steps below the Bonzini tables coolography is used to, but we’d be hard pressed to find a more unique environment to play in. continue reading »

Motion blurs can often be an undesireable byproduct, but in certain cases are intentional and can even be the most striking aspect of the image.

Which is where striking may be even be an understatement in the case of the Light Art Performance Project, which combines coloured lights and carefully choreographed movement alongside long exposure times to produce stunningly unreal, yet completely real scenes. continue reading »
