Last week saw the global launch of Vogue’s Fashion Night Out, both a celebration of fashion, and yet another attempt to revive flagging consumer confidence in the retail industry. Comprising of over a dozen events worldwide, we were curious to see what events were planned in our very own London town. On a last minute tip, we decided to leave well alone the pretend paparazzi at Debenhams, a futile flashmob at Lambretta, and lo, even a Yo Sushi sponsored Uniqlo ‘party’. Instead, coolography opted rather atypically to visit global high street basics peddlers GAP, for their new ‘1969′ concept store opening and 40th anniversary party… continue reading »

sartorialist

With a great disparity between fashion he saw in the real world, and those of everyday people in the street, Scott Schuman one day decided to document those he simply thought were, as coolography would say, a good look. Fast forward a few years and the former fashion marketer turned self taught photographer found himself running one of the world’s most famous fashion blogs. As well as “turning photo blogging into an art form”, Schuman was also named recently as one of Time magazine’s top 100 design influencers.

Now, after over four years and countless photographs, Schuman has compiled an anthology of his most favoured shots from around the world; the wide range of sartorial subjects spans from London to Rio, Paris to Milan, and of course, New York.

Available in paperback and a luxurious, limited edition hardback edition, The Sartorialist is a must for any style junkie’s coffee table.

Fast forward a number of years and coolography has stumbled upon the uniform project, a spark of genius from designer Sheena Matheiken, who has taken the idea of individualising a uniform to extreme, yet admirable levels. By setting herself the daunting task of wearing the same dress for 365 days, coolography was initially sceptical, but 42 days in and we’re suitably impressed… continue reading »

New York streetwear kings Supreme have joined with high end concept department store DSM to showcase their new Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Previously only available in the UK through the legendary streetwear boutique Hideout, this move reflects further the changes in London’s troubled streetwear scene. Joining the relocated Bathing Ape, and revered brands such as Visvim, Junya Watanabe, and Undercover, this move rounds out DSM’s already impressive bottom floor… continue reading »

The ever increasing saturation of the footwear market often throws into despair even the most dedicated footwear addict. Limited editions, collaborations, celebrity endorsements – most are ill-conceived and fall firmly into coolography’s shameful gimmick list. Amongst the flood of multi/neon/paint-by-numbers retro releases of previous months, coolography came across an aberration. A trainer collaboration with some style and substance. continue reading »
